Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
The short version
PlayDate is built so that we collect no personal data about children. A child profile is only a first name (or nickname) and an age range - never a birthdate, last name, address, or contact details. Meetups are public to your neighborhood, there is no private messaging, and we never sell your data.
Overview
PlayDate ("we," "us," or "our") operates a neighborhood playdate scheduler at playdatenearby.com and app.playdatenearby.com. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect from the parents who use PlayDate, how we use it, and the steps we take to protect families. We collect only what is necessary to run the service.
No personal data about children
Children never have their own account and are always profiles managed by a verified parent. For each child we store only:
- A first name or nickname (you choose what to use)
- An age range / age band - used to match kids of similar ages
We do not collect a child’s birthdate, last name, exact age, home address, school, or contact information. Child photos are restricted/off in the current version. Age matching is driven entirely by the age range you select - never a stored date of birth.
Information we collect from parents
To run the service we collect from the adult account holder:
- Name and email address (required to create and verify an account)
- Your home address or ZIP, used once to determine your neighborhood (we store an approximate location, not a precise pin)
- Meetups you create or RSVP to, and posts you make on the neighborhood board
- Reports or blocks you submit for safety
- Login activity and session information (for security)
We do not collect payment information or government IDs.
How we use your information
Your information is used solely to:
- Place you in the right neighborhood and match families by age range
- Show public meetups and neighborhood board posts to other verified members nearby
- Send transactional emails (email verification, password reset, meetup reminders)
- Operate safety features - moderation, reports, blocks, and removing bad actors
Public by design, no private messaging
PlayDate has no private direct messaging. Meetups and neighborhood board posts are visible to the verified members of your neighborhood - this keeps plans open and accountable. Your first name and the meetups you host or join are visible to those members. Please share only what you’re comfortable being seen by your neighborhood.
Information sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes, advertisers, or data brokers. Information is visible to other verified members of your neighborhood within the service (for example, your name on a meetup you host). We use trusted infrastructure providers (such as cloud hosting and transactional email) solely to operate PlayDate. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of families using the service.
Data storage & security
All data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure using industry-standard practices, including encrypted connections (TLS), encrypted database storage, and access controls. Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes and are never readable by administrators. Verified-account requirements, rate limiting, and single-use expiring links protect the sign-up and reset flows.
Cookies & tracking
The app uses session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or sell tracking data. This marketing site uses only privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic, and sets no advertising cookies.
Data retention & your rights
We retain account data while your account is active. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time. On account deletion we remove your personal information within 30 days, except where limited retention is required for legitimate or legal purposes. Deleting your account also removes your children’s profiles.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will notify active members of material changes by email. Continued use of PlayDate after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
